Listed as the 10th largest county in Texas, Fort Bend
County grew 57.2% from 1990 to 2000. Residential growth
has been primarily focused on the multitude of new
master-planned communities which offer, in addition to
new homes with modern amenities, custom options, and
reasonable price tags, many parks and recreational
facilities including fine golf courses. This high
quality lifestyle and excellent schools can be found in
a number of communities all less than an hour from
downtown Houston. |

Fulshear |
| The City of Fulshear
is located in northwest Fort Bend County, at
the crossroads of FM 359 and FM 1093. The
city limits stretch across approximately 8.2
square miles of beautiful landscape dotted
with century old hardwoods, grassy prairies,
and low lands along the banks of the Brazos
River. The city incorporated in 1977 with a
population of 718 residents. Primarily a
farm and ranch community, Fulshear has seen
the development of a growing commercial
district and a number of new residential
housing areas. It now offers residents a
relaxed country lifestyle with the
convenience of being just seven miles from
major shopping, dining and entertainment
venues. The completion of the Westpark
Tollway, now connecting the Grand Parkway
(Hwy. 99), Hwy 6, the Sam Houston Beltway
(Hwy. 8), and Hwy 59 just west of the 610
loop near the Galleria, greatly improved
access for residents of western Fort Bend
county to jobs throughout downtown Houston. |

| Richmond |
Richmond, the county seat of Fort Bend
County, is on the Brazos River fifteen miles
southwest of Houston. The city's
transportation links include U.S. highways
90A and 59, the Southern Pacific Railroad,
and the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe
Railway. The area is a convenient commute
into the city of Houston, but also is home
to many local jobs connected with county
government and judicial system. Along with
the nearby city of Rosenberg, Richmond
children attend the Lamar Consolidated
Independent School District, which serves
more than 13,000.
Richmond is a friendly town rich in Texas
History and Western Culture. Dating from
Stephen F. Austin's settlement on the banks
of the Brazos River, Richmond welcomes you
to enjoy its rich history and friendly,
helpful people. You will like strolling down
quiet neighborhood streets lined with
massive oaks while you visit historic homes
or the Fort Bend County Museum. Richmond is
also the home of Oak Bend Medical Center, a
state of the art health care facility, and
the home of one of the finest library
systems in the state of Texas --- The George
Memorial Library. |

| Rosenberg |
Further out from Houston, the city of
Rosenberg is where many of Fort Bend
County's wide open spaces can be found. The
city has grown at a more steady and moderate
pace in contrast to other communities in the
county and that's part of the draw to those
who live there. With a 2006 population of
31,800, the local economy is in part
supported by mineral and petroleum
industries as well as farming and
construction, but still many residents
commute to the southwest Houston area, less
than an hour's drive.
The city offers low living costs, good
schools, and ample recreational facilities
as well as an abundance of historical sites,
museums, and memorials. Rosenberg is home to
the Brazos Bend State Park, 4,897-acres of
lakes and bottomland hardwood forests and an
abundant and diverse wildlife population.
The popular destination includes 21-miles of
hiking and biking trails, 100 campsites,
picnic areas, the largest telescope open to
the public anywhere in the nation at the
George Observatory along with the
fascinating Challenger Learning Center.
Other attractions include 100 years of Texas
history at the George Ranch Historical Park.
Also in Rosenberg, the Fort Bend County Fair
held each fall has grown into one of the
largest and most successful fairs in the
state with a primary focus on youth
education and providing scholarships to
deserving students. |
